A little over a year ago, I made Casual Games. If the game did well enough to warrant a port to another device, we’d do it. It was that simple.
At BigStack Studios, we’re about to start planning our next collection of games. As we do, there’s no denying the world is a radically different place from the world I knew just over one year ago.
Facebook has blown up, the iPad has launched and “freemium” seems to be the future of iPhone games. All this and we’re expecting to hear news of new handhelds from Nintendo and Sony in the not to distant future.
So what do we do? Do we go with everyone down the “freemium” path? Do we plan on making games that will absolutely go to multiple platforms?
As we plan, it will be my job to make sure that regardless of which path we take, game design integrates the new world order rather than designs around it. It’s time to evolve or risk becoming a dinosaur.
